ABOUT
JAKOB (JACK) GRUENER
Jakob Gruener was born and raised in the Tyrolean mountains, Austria where he learnt the art of traditional carpentry from the region. He completed his apprenticeship in 1992, and went on to become well know in the area for his quality workmanship.
Throughout the winter months in Austria he spent around 120 days on the slopes ski instructing. Summers were spent on many building projects throughout the region. One of his most outstanding achievements was building the "Brunnenkogl Haus" which perches itself on top of the world at just under 3000m above sea level. Navigating the logistics and special requirements of building in such rugged landscape, high altitudes and extreme weather conditions has made him most resourceful and truly dedicated.
In January 2014 he moved to Mangawhai, New Zealand with his kiwi wife Zoey and two daughters, Hope aged 4 and Naomi aged 2.
After setting up his workshop on Black Swamp Road, filled with fresh inspiration from NZ native timbers he is eager to fufill bespoke
carpentry projects for people who share the same passion for true quality craftmanship and solid timber design.
